Job Summary

The Graduate Research (GAAN) Fellow position in Biology is responsible for graduate student research leading to an M.S. (thesis track) in Environmental and Biological Sciences at Troy University, including all expectations of professional development, mentorship, and activities required by the GAAN grant funded by the Department of Education.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Academic Achievement
    • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or a related field.
    • Minimum GPA of 3.3 from the previous degree (BS or MS).
  • Financial Need
    • Demonstration of financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid Office, and eligibility to receive federal assistance.
  • Citizenship or Residency
    • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or a resident of a Freely Associated State.
  • Commitment to Research and Teaching
    • Strong interest in pursuing advanced research and teaching in the biological sciences.
    • Desire to pursue a Ph.D. in biological sciences or a related field upon completion of the master’s program.
  • Professional Potential
    • Demonstrated potential through letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, or previous research experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Strong communication skills showing both oral and written proficiency
    • Strong quantitative skills
    Working Conditions
    • Work Hours:

      20 hours per week
    • Driving may be necessary but is not a primary responsibility
    • Hazardous

      Conditions:

      potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, biological agents, sharp instruments in the lab, environmental risks such as extreme weather and uneven terrain during fieldwork. Physical demands include extended periods of standing, repetitive motions, lifting up to and travel to field sites. Proper safety training, equipment, and protocols will be provided to mitigate these risks.
