Controller, Accounting, Accounting Manager

A great UHY client is seeking a Controller to take ownership of its accounting function and drive meaningful process improvement across systems, reporting, and close processes. This is a highly hands‑on “builder” role for a leader who can assess current‑state operations, redesign workflows, and implement scalable accounting infrastructure in a fast‑changing environment.

The Controller role is an onsite position based in Troy, MI. This is a permanent, direct‑hire opportunity supporting a company transitioning to a more structured and recurring revenue‑driven business model.

• Assess current accounting processes and identify areas for improvement across the close cycle and reporting structure
• Redesign and implement improved accounting workflows, controls, and procedures
• Own core accounting functions including reconciliations, reporting, and operational accounting activities
• Support and enhance revenue recognition processes, particularly as the company transitions to recurring revenue models
• Lead or support system improvements and implementations (CRM/ERP and related tools)
• Manage and develop one direct report
• Partner closely with leadership (including COO) to support financial visibility and decision‑making
• Oversee process stabilization and rebuild of accounting infrastructure as the organization scales
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3–4 years in a supervisory or management role
• Proven experience improving and rebuilding accounting processes and month‑end close procedures
• Strong systems implementation experience (Zoho preferred; Net Suite, Sage, or similar also acceptable)
• Experience with job costing (construction or related industries preferred)
• Strong understanding of revenue recognition, particularly in transitioning or recurring revenue environments
• Hands‑on leadership style with willingness to operate in the details
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, less structured environment
