This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of

Job Responsibilities

The Tariff Analyst is responsible for maintaining and configuring the Company's billing system to ensure compliance with accounting requirements, tariff provisions, regulatory standards, and billing accuracy. This role collaborates closely with business partners, Legal, and enterprise-wide leadership to ensure adherence to all applicable rates, tariffs, and regulatory requirements. The Tariff Analyst supports the configuration of standard and moderately complex billing requirements while ensuring accurate billing and consistent tariff application.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in assigned project teams and collaborate with stakeholders to identify potential issues or conflicts related to SAP configuration. Opportunities to lead projects and initiatives may be available.
  • Research and resolve moderately complex billing issues, including customer complaints and billing discrepancies.
  • Support regulatory proceedings by reviewing tariff proposals for potential billing system impacts, providing production invoices for audit requests, assisting the Rate Administration team with Staff and Intervenor Testimony reviews, and preparing PFD and final order summaries.
  • Independently review production and/or audit simulation invoices following the implementation of rate configuration changes transported to production.
  • Perform moderately complex account setup activities, including the development and maintenance of standard work instructions to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as business needs require.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex information, conduct research, and manage highly confidential and time-sensitive matters.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory requirements, organizational structure, and utility industry practices.
  • Ability to influence others and build strong working relationships across the organization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels.
  • Proficiency in SAP Front Office and Back Office processes, including Business and Technical Master Data, as well as Business Intelligence tools.
  • Knowledge of billing configuration, including billing schemas, rates, pricing keys, operands, rate types, and rate determinants.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, tasks, and assignments in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Political Science, Finance, Legal Studies, Engineering, or a related discipline, with two (2) or more years of experience in rates, billing, customer service, and/or auditing within a utility environment. Experience in report creation, technology adoption, change management, and/or data analysis is required.
