RESPONSIBLE TO: GLBEC Program Director
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Administrative/Non-Bargaining.
  • One (1) Full-time position (220 Days).

  • SUMMARY OF POSITION:
    The Career Navigator is responsible for supporting academic success and career/college readiness for students who attend the Great Lakes Bay Early College (GLBEC). In particular, the focus would be on at-risk students who would benefit from a structured post-secondary career preparation pathway, and promoting the District’s mission of creating a college-going culture by leveraging relationships with our higher education partner institutions - Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) and Delta.

    College would be defined as any post-secondary training leading to career preparedness.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in education, social work, counseling, or similar program;
    Master’s preferred.
  • Knowledge about the SISD, SVSU, Delta College, the Great Lakes Bay Early College, and the target population.
  • Experience with facilitation of career awareness development, planning, and opportunities for students.
  • Must demonstrate strong technology skills.
  • Must demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and listening skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and human relations skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and independent decision-making skills.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail, to organize, multi-task, and plan work to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze data and provide recommendations.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and staff.
  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly.
  • Ability to communicate with employees and other business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to function as a team player and work collaboratively and cooperatively in a shared decision-making environment.

  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the school-based staff to plan and implement Career/College Readiness and College Seminar activities and lessons.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the career/college awareness and access program with school-based staff.
  • Coordination and development of work-based learning opportunities for students.
  • Coordination and facilitation of team-building activities within cohorts.
  • Develop a communication process with school-based staff to ensure proper transcript information.
  • Maintain student transcripts and ensure that each graduate meets completion requirements.
  • Work with school-based staff and other service providers to ensure that each school site has a College Resource Center with materials, personnel, technology, and other resources available/accessible to students.
  • Design and implement a variety of instructional activities, materials, and strategies related to career/college awareness and access for use with individual students, small groups, classes, and large groups in assembly, classroom, conference, seminar, summer program, workshop, and other appropriate settings.
  • Provide students with assistance in the areas of academic achievement, school success (attendance, behavior, personal, and social issues), and life-skills (e.g., organization skills, time management, individual and social responsibility, and work ethic) that impact school performance and college access, readiness, enrollment, and success.
