Position Summary:

South Haven Public Schools is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Middle School

Assistant Principal who is committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and high- achieving learning environment. The ideal candidate is a strong instructional leader with a background in teaching and a deep understanding of systems that support the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success of all students. Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Principal to lead the ongoing growth, innovation, and day-to-day operations of the middle school.
  • Cultivate a culture of learning and innovation by partnering with teachers as designers of meaningful student experiences, supporting reflective practice, continuous growth, and instructional approaches that prepare students to think critically, adapt, collaborate, and thrive in a rapidly changing world.
  • Lead the development of responsive systems of support that ensure every student receives the academic, behavioral (PBIS), and social-emotional (SEL) interventions needed (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support-MTSS).
  • Leverage meaningful data and diverse perspectives to drive responsive decision- making, personalize support for students and staff, and continuously improve systems, instruction, and learning experiences to meet the evolving needs of the school community.
  • Build authentic partnerships with staff, students, families, and community members to create a connected learning community where shared voice, collaboration, and collective responsibility drive student growth, well-being, and future readiness.
  • Support student discipline through relationship-centered approaches that prioritize reflection, empathy, accountability, and skill-building, helping students learn from challenges while remaining connected to their school community and learning environment.
  • Champion relationship-centered practices that foster belonging, accountability, empathy, and student voice, helping create a school culture where conflict becomes an opportunity for growth (Restorative Practices).

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or related field (required)
  • Valid Michigan administrative certification (or eligibility)
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience
  • Experience with student-centered Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) that ensures every learner receives the academic, behavioral, and emotional support needed to thrive, including the implementation of PBIS frameworks rooted in belonging and accountability.
  • Experience with Restorative Practices and Social Emotional Learning approaches that build community, strengthen relationships, and create learning environments where students feel seen, valued, and empowered.
  • Proven ability to build authentic relationships with students, staff, and families grounded in empathy, trust, cultural responsiveness, and a deep belief in the potential of every child.
  • Ability to use multiple forms of data to identify student needs, inform instruction, guide interventions, and continuously improve outcomes in equitable and meaningful ways.
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication, collaboration, and organization skills while fostering collective efficacy, shared leadership, and innovative problem-solving across the school community.
