Position Overview
The Project Advisor position for Student Support Services is responsible for serving as an academic advisor to program participants; administering and evaluating academic and needs survey assessments; creating and maintaining Individual Academic and Service Plans (IASP) on assigned participants; providing individual and group coaching in writing, math, and/or study skills; assisting participants with graduate/professional school planning; developing and conducting student development, academic, and graduation workshops;
accompanying program participants to cultural events; attending professional development training; and other duties as assigned by the Project Coordinator. Travel will be required when needed.
- Serve as an academic advisor to program participants.
- Administer and evaluate academic and needs survey assessments.
- Create and maintain Individual Academic and Service Plans (IASP) for assigned participants.
- Provide individual and group coaching in writing, math, and/or study skills.
- Assist participants with graduate/professional school planning.
- Develop and conduct student development, academic, and graduation workshops.
- Accompany program participants to cultural events.
- Attend professional development training.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Coordinator.
- Travel as required.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in higher education, social work, psychology, or related field.
- Minimum of two years of appropriate and relevant professional experience working in a TRIO federal program or similar related program/project for disadvantaged and at-risk college students.
- Experience coordinating and supervising project programming and field experiences.
- Experience advising and assisting participants with the graduate school admissions and financial aid process.
- Professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting project participants.
- Master’s degree in post-secondary education, counseling, educational psychology, or a related field.
- Experience working with a diverse adult population in a higher educational setting.
- Knowledge in Adult Education/Learning theories.
- Driving may be necessary but is not a primary responsibility; personal vehicle, university vehicle, utility vehicle, or golf cart may be required.

Position is funded by external sponsor agency. Troy University is under no obligation to maintain this position if funding from external source is reduced or ceased.
