SPECIAL EDUCATION SUBSTITUTE TEACHER - DESIGNATED (Edu Staff Employee)

Position Type: Substitute/ Substitue Teacher

Job Summary: Full‑time Edu Staff Special Education Substitute Teacher position available in the North Region (Airport Community, Dundee Community, and Jefferson Schools grades K‑12) for the 2025‑26 school year. Work schedule is based on the district calendar; hours and schedule are determined at the time of assignment.

Salary & Benefits: $145.00/day. Benefits as offered by Edu Staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Report to the school office upon arrival, check out at end of the day.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the specified locations and times.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records of the day.
  • Plan, supervise and provide guidance for students, teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Assist students with any help they may need with their work.
  • Tidy up the classroom after the day has commenced.
  • Follow lesson plans and make notations.
  • Be prepared to assist in other classrooms during prep hour or breaks.
  • Maintain student confidentiality.
  • Discipline students as necessary following school policies.
  • Be aware of any school policy and procedures regarding lockdowns, fire drills, etc.
  • Interact with co‑workers, administration, students, parents and the community in a positive, supportive and cooperative manner.
  • Perform other related duties, including special projects, as required or requested, consistent with reasonable expectations for the contracted position.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of 60 semester hours of satisfactory credit consolidated at a one‑year regionally accredited college, community college or university.
  • Completion of an orientation session with Edu Staff which outlines specific expectations for special classification substitutes.
  • Possession of a Substitute Teacher Permit from the State of Michigan, if not holding a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
  • Completion of the required training modules.
  • Demonstrated record of good attendance and punctuality.
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Compliance with criminal history background requirements (requires Michigan and FBI fingerprint and SOARS clearance; processing fee is the responsibility of the substitute teacher).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
  • Two or more years of K‑12 teaching experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Regularly required to reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, sit and talk or hear. Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Frequently required to bend at the neck. Must regularly lift up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and peripheral vision.

Must be able to locate sound sources and hear in a noisy environment. Occasionally will assist in physical management of students.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level is usually moderate to loud. The substitute teacher interacts with the public and other staff and is directly responsible for the safety, well‑being and work output of students.
