Special Education Teacher
TEACHER - ELEMENTARY SPECIAL EDUCATION - LEVEL 2 SUMMARY
Allegan Public Schools is dedicated to providing inclusive and supportive educational environments for all students. We are seeking a passionate and qualified Special Education Teacher to join our team and make a positive impact on the lives of students with diverse learning needs. In this role, you’ll focus on enhancing the learning experience for students with IEPs by planning and delivering instruction using evidence-based curriculum.
Your goal will be to support students in making meaningful progress across academic areas, social and interpersonal skills, and daily living activities.

Instruction& Student Support
- Deliver instruction aligned with program expectations and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students receiving Level 2 Programming.
- Utilize a variety of evidence-based instructional strategies and resources to meet diverse learning needs.
- Monitor and assess student progress in academic, behavioral, and social-emotional areas; adjust instruction as needed.
- Develop comprehensive, data-driven IEPs that address student needs, goals, and supports identified by the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team.
- Co-develop and implement Positive Behavior Support Plans; assist with Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs).
- Work closely with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure effective implementation of services.
- Facilitate IEP meetings and collaborate with IEP teams to promote student access, participation, and progress.
- Coordinate with administrators and colleagues to support student needs across settings, including general education environments.
- Demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills across grade levels and disciplines.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in accordance with legal and district requirements.
- Schedule, supervise, and support para educators in a variety of instructional settings.
- Complete Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training and participate in the building-level crisis intervention team.
- Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or university required.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a ZG endorsement along with a Special Education endorsement(s) or on an alternative path/route to obtain the required endorsements.
- Must be highly qualified as defined by the Michigan State Dept. of Education.
- Experience working with at-risk youth and familiar with trauma-informed practices.
- Demonstration of technological literacy around specialized instruction & caseload management.
- Willingness to learn the tenants of Multi-Tiered System of Support and Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (MTSS/PBIS).
- Desire to collaborate with peers and administration in a team-centered environment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently walking and standing. In addition, the employee may frequently bend or twist at the neck and back while performing the duties of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision and close vision such as to read typewritten material. The employee may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds such as student equipment.

Wages, benefits, and work year as defined in the Teachers’ Master Agreement
SALARYCommensurate with experience and background based upon the salary schedule in the AEA Master Agreement
