Paint Process Engineer

Work Location:

* Chattanooga, TN

* This person will transfer permanently to Toledo, OH in January 2027

Responsibilities

* Lead paint development activities to achieve required quality levels and OEM specifications at committed cost

* Coordinate cross‑functional teams including plant production, paint setting, laboratory, suppliers, and customers

* Ensure paint process stability for both product and process, including quality, repeatability, and consistency

* Manage paint technical relationships with raw material suppliers and validate new paint products

* Define paint zoning commitments and ensure proper application of Design-to-Paint methodology

* Drive jigs development from CAD design through on-site validation, including prototype phases

* Lead paint trials, evaluate painted parts, and define necessary adjustments for robust process performance

* Validate paint ranges, application parameters, and customer specifications (mechanical and appearance)

* Participate in run@rate events and support PPAP activities, including customer buy-offs

* Identify paint-related continuous improvement opportunities and support productivity initiatives

Profile

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering with relevant experience

* Minimum 5 years of experience in paint, coatings, chemistry, or process engineering within the automotive industry

* Prior involvement in project organization or cross‑functional project leadership

* Strong knowledge of liquid paint application processes for Class A automotive surfaces

* Ability to measure and evaluate color, surface structure, and paint defects

* Strong ownership mindset with the ability to take full responsibility for paint development results

* Strong communication, analytical, and collaborative capabilities

* Ability to work effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and OEM customers

* English required; additional languages are a plus
