We are looking for a talented Product Engineering Specialist to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Troy, MI
.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive high-quality product decisions by synthesizing input from technical managers, project leaders, manufacturing engineers, and supplier partners into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Advance projects efficiently without compromising quality by applying academic foundations and hands‑on experience to make sound day‑to‑day technical, analytical, and coordination decisions.
  • Enable cross‑discipline execution by defining and coordinating analysis, testing, and work instructions that ensure aligned progress across engineering and manufacturing functions.
  • Strengthen decision‑making rigor through effective application and continuous improvement of ESW, iDFMEA, FIRG, and structured problem‑solving tools such as 7‑step problem solving and design review checklists.
  • Provide independent technical leadership by owning smaller business‑impact projects or complex components/systems with ambiguity and full accountability to the project team.
  • Execute and mature engineering processes by independently applying established and emerging work systems while building deeper product and technology expertise.
  • Build team capability and capacity by coordinating technicians and student employees, and transferring knowledge to less‑experienced engineers through direct or indirect leadership.
  • Influence technical direction as a recognized specialist by guiding project teams, improving functional discipline processes at the site level, and continually developing critical competencies.
Qualifications
  • Lead end‑to‑end product development execution across the full lifecycle, aligning system requirements, technical profiles, quality targets, and project resources.
  • Drive product reliability through proactive failure‑mode avoidance, identifying system interfaces, functional interactions, and root causes using structured risk analysis methods.
  • Influence design decisions by applying modeling, simulation, and analytical tools to predict system, subsystem, and component‑level performance.
  • Define, control, and integrate system interfaces to ensure requirements compliance, executing integration plans that enable early issue detection and resolution.
  • Solve complex product issues using data‑driven, customer‑protective problem‑solving processes, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Manage product verification and validation
    , negotiating requirements against capability, assessing test and simulation results, and documenting technical recommendations.
  • Establish configuration and change management discipline
    , maintaining product baselines and controlling changes from concept through obsolescence.
  • Produce high‑quality technical documentation and communicate effectively across cross‑functional teams, enabling knowledge transfer, informing decisions, and producing consistent results.
Education
  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Post‑graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience
  • Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.
  • Performing engineering analysis & design necessary for prototype, production, application and testing of axle/suspension, components and systems. This will include the use of CAD/CAE tools such as Creo/Pro‑Engineer, Creo Simulate/Pro‑Mechanica.
  • Manage all aspects of engineering products according to customer requirements with focus on coordinating project timing, costs, test plans and prototype builds.
  • Create preliminary concepts of components/systems and work with designers to release detailed drawing package.
