Staff Civil Engineer

Job Description

This Staff Civil Engineer role sits within a building and infrastructure engineering team and focuses on engineering consulting, testing, monitoring, and evaluation services for facilities, pavements, and infrastructure assets. You will combine hands-on field work with office-based analysis to support condition assessments, roofing and pavement evaluations, vibration monitoring programs, and structural and materials-related investigations. This position emphasizes evaluation, asset management, and consulting rather than traditional civil design or project management, offering diverse project exposure and strong opportunities for professional growth.

Responsibilities

+ Support engineering consulting, testing, monitoring, and evaluation services for facilities, pavements, and infrastructure assets.

+ Work closely with licensed engineers, technicians, and project managers to deliver high-quality engineering support on a variety of projects.

+ Assist with facility and asset condition assessments, including building systems, pavements, and related infrastructure.

+ Participate in roofing evaluations and roofing condition assessments, documenting observations and supporting recommendations.

+ Conduct parking lot and pavement investigations, including pavement evaluation and data collection in the field.

+ Support vibration monitoring programs, including setup, monitoring, data collection, and interpretation of results.

+ Assist with structural and materials-related evaluations, including coordination of testing and review of field data.

+ Perform hands-on field inspections and site investigations, including monitoring setup and nondestructive testing activities.

+ Support nondestructive testing efforts such as vibration monitoring, infrared inspections, infrared thermography, and ground penetrating radar surveys.

+ Collect, organize, and analyze field and testing data to support engineering conclusions and client recommendations.

+ Review findings from field investigations and testing and assist in developing clear, concise technical conclusions.

+ Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and client deliverables, ensuring professional, accurate, and well-documented results.

+ Support asset management initiatives, including condition-based assessments and lifecycle-oriented evaluations of infrastructure.

+ Assist with restoration and renovation consulting efforts, providing evaluation-based input to repair and rehabilitation strategies.

+ Participate in post-event or forensic evaluations, helping investigate performance issues and potential causes of distress.

+ Work independently in the field while maintaining effective communication and collaboration with the broader project team.

+ Apply strong observational and problem-solving skills to identify issues, interpret data, and support practical engineering recommendations.

Essential Skills

+ Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

+ 2 to 5 years of experience supporting engineering consulting, testing, inspection, or evaluation services.

+ Hands-on experience with field inspections, site investigations, and data collection for engineering evaluations.

+ Experience contributing to technical report writing, including documenting observations and supporting engineering conclusions.

+ Background in civil engineering with exposure to building and infrastructure evaluations and condition-based assessments.

+ Ability to support asset management activities through structured evaluation and documentation of infrastructure condition.

+ Comfort performing hands-on field work, including site inspections, monitoring setup, and data collection.

+ Ability to conduct office-based analysis and reporting, including review and interpretation of field and test data.

+ Strong written communication skills with the ability to assist with clear, professional technical reports.

+ Detail-oriented approach with strong observational and problem-solving abilities.

+ Ability to work independently in the field while collaborating effectively with engineers, technicians, and project managers.
