Mechanical Engineer
Job OverviewThe Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing custom equipment in Solidworks and will directly oversee all assigned equipment design and build projects through their completion. This role requires providing proactive communication and customer contact to ensure that a high-value solution is provided to meet application requirements. The engineer will design and engineer machines, perform FEA using Solidworks Simulation, and conduct engineering calculations such as load and stress analysis.
Utilizing an ERP system to create, manage, and modify bills of materials is also a key part of the job.
- Design custom and standard equipment based on a thorough understanding of customer specifications and specific application needs, using commonly accepted engineering practices and current industry standards.
- Design mechanical systems and mechanisms, such as pallet dispensers, slip sheet dispensers, pick and place systems, pallet conveyors, bucket elevators, pneumatic conveying, and screw feeders.
- Use hand calculations and FEA to evaluate designs.
- Design and produce schematics for hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Work with engineering staff to provide engineering information and complete design documentation for manufacturing, ensuring timely and cost‑effective manufacture of the equipment.
- Provide engineering expertise and support to machine design staff.
- Perform troubleshooting and problem‑solving tasks on equipment in design, fabrication, assembly, and field installations.
- Work with management to achieve department goals related to product quality, project schedules, and corporate financial objectives.
- Collaborate with all team members to maintain a positive, enjoyable work environment.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience designing custom equipment/machines within Solidworks
- Experience designing and producing schematics for hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Proficiency in FEA for stress and load analysis using Solidworks Simulation.
- Proficiency in GD&T.
- Experience with ERP systems for creating and modifying bills of materials.
- Material handling equipment experience preferred.
A typical work week is 40‑45 hours, with a friendly team environment. Benefits include 10 days of PTO, 6 standard holidays, and access to Udemy after 6 months.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Allegan, MI.
Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.47 – $44.24/hr.
