We are seeking a Sr. Product Engineer to lead the design, application engineering, and technical implementation of Fluid Systems and Thermal Management (FSTM) products to drive business growth in the North American market. Acting as the primary regional R&D interface, this position bridges local customer requirements (RFIs/RFQs) with German HQ design expertise and Juarez manufacturing capabilities. The immediate focus will be on mechanical and electrical pump applications, with long-term expansion into integrated thermal management solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Customer Interface:
Act as the lead R&D technical interface for North American customers alongside the regional Sales & BD Manager. Evaluate customer needs, lead technical discussions for RFIs/RFQs, and translate local market requirements into viable product proposals. - Product Expertise:
Serve as the regional subject matter expert for mechanical pumps and electrical pumps, performing independent design reviews, sizing, and concept validation. - Design & Engineering:
Independently execute CAD modeling, assembly creation, drawing approvals, and basic tolerance/simulation calculations. - Global
Collaboration:
Collaborate closely with the German HQ R&D team for platform alignment and D-FMEA approvals. Interface with the Juarez, Mexico production team to ensure Design-for-Manufacturability (DFM) and smooth localization of production lines. - Validation & Quality:
Oversee local prototype builds, sample portfolios, and product validation testing requirements. Assist with root-cause analysis for pre-production or series production issues. - Supplier Optimization:
Assist in evaluating regional suppliers and identifying design-to-cost opportunities for localized production. - Process Compliance:
Create and manage engineering release data and technical specifications in alignment with global division processes and ISO/IATF quality standards.
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required. - Experience:
At least 5 years of combined experience in R&D and/or application engineering in the automotive industry. - Technical
Skills:
Proficient in CAD, component design, assembly creation, drawing creation/approval, and tolerance calculations. - Industry Knowledge:
Experience with fluid systems (mechanical/electrical pumps). Understanding of thermal management systems, electric motors, and electronics is highly preferred. - Testing & Validation:
Experience with automotive product testing and validation processes. - Soft Skills:
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated success collaborating across multicultural, cross-regional teams. - Languages:
Business fluency in English is required. - Travel:
Occasional domestic and international travel will be needed to support customers or visit other Nidec entities.
