About This Opportunity

The Bankruptcy Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day administration and processing of mortgage servicing bankruptcy cases. This position manages a portfolio of Chapter 7, Chapter 11, Chapter 12, and Chapter 13 accounts, ensuring compliance with bankruptcy court requirements, investor guidelines, and mortgage servicing regulations.

The Bankruptcy Specialist performs case review, proof of claim preparation and filing, bankruptcy payment monitoring, plan review, discharge processing, and communication with attorneys, trustees, borrowers, and internal business partners. This role is hands‑on and focused on ensuring all bankruptcy activities are completed accurately, timely, and in compliance with applicable regulations and investor requirements.

Operational Responsibilities
  • Review and board new bankruptcy filings upon receipt.
  • Maintain accurate bankruptcy records within servicing systems.
  • Prepare, file, and monitor Proofs of Claim.
  • Review Chapter 13 plans and modifications for accuracy and investor compliance.
  • Monitor trustee payments and apply bankruptcy‑related transactions correctly.
  • Track critical bankruptcy deadlines and ensure timely completion of required actions.
  • Review bankruptcy notices, motions, objections, and other court documents.
  • Coordinate with internal departments regarding loan status changes resulting from bankruptcy proceedings.
  • Process loan treatment following dismissals, discharges, conversions, and case closings.
  • Maintain documentation supporting bankruptcy activity and servicing decisions.
  • Respond to bankruptcy‑related inquiries from borrowers, trustees, attorneys, and internal stakeholders.
Case Monitoring and Payment Application
  • Monitor Chapter 13 trustee payments and repayment plan performance.
  • Review post‑petition payment activity and identify delinquencies.
  • Process repayment plan changes and modifications.
  • Track cure payments and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure bankruptcy transactions are accurately reflected within servicing systems.
  • Identify and elevate servicing issues that may impact bankruptcy compliance.

Location and Schedule
  • This is a full‑time, office‑based position in a modern, cozy environment in our Troy, MI office.
  • Our standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, promoting a healthy work‑life balance.
Skills & Qualifications Education

High School Diploma or GED required.

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Legal Studies, or a related field preferred.

Experience
  • 2-5 years of mortgage servicing bankruptcy experience preferred.
  • Experience administering Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies.
  • Experience preparing and filing Proofs of Claim.
