A mission-driven organization focused on creating positive impact is seeking an Interim Controller based in Oakland, CA. The organization supports innovative, high-impact initiatives and is looking for an experienced finance leader to provide hands‑on leadership and stability during an interim period.

• Oversee day‑to‑day financial operations:
  Manage payments and agreements across vendors, payroll, grants, and investments, while ensuring financial data and spend management systems are accurate and up to date.
• Own financial reporting and compliance:
  Lead the preparation of financial statements and coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and other compliance requirements alongside external accounting, audit, and tax partners.
• Partner on FP&A:
  Work closely with leadership and budget owners on budgeting, forecasting, budget‑to‑actuals reporting, and financial analysis to support decision‑making.
• Manage the balance sheet and treasury:
  Oversee cash and investment activity, monitor the investment portfolio, and provide clear reporting to support effective financial and risk management.
• Improve financial processes and systems:
  Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, streamline processes, and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance function.

• 8-12 years of experience in accounting, financial management and strategic finance, preferably with a combination of experience in professional services plus startups.
• Exceptional relationship orientation and verbal + written communication.
• Gives and receives feedback well.
• Comfortable operating outside a fixed job description and thriving in a startup-like environment.
• Eagerness to use AI and new technology as an opportunity to improve effectiveness.
• Commitment to high standards, ownership, and tenacious problem solving.

This role is based in office 5 days a week, moving to 3 days per week between January and June 2027.
