SB Specialty Metals LLC is seeking a proactive,
hands-on HR Manager to lead and manage all human resources initiatives across our organization. Reporting directly to the Company President
, this role plays an active part as a member of the leadership team and serves as the sole HR representative for the company. The role will be based in our Troy, MI or Vandalia, OH Service Centers.
This is a high-impact role for an experienced HR professional who thrives in both strategic leadership and day-to-day execution
, supporting a multi-state workforce in a fast-paced service center environment.
The HR Manager is responsible for the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, performance management, payroll, and offboarding. The ideal candidate will foster a positive, productive, and compliant workplace culture while serving as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees alike.
SB Specialty Metals employs approximately 100 employees across five service centers in five states
. Travel of up to 25% is required between the service centers, particularly during onboarding and periodically throughout the year.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations, performance management, and workplace concerns
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR documentation
- Manage and administer company HR policies and procedures
- Oversee safety programs and OSHA compliance
- Process bi-weekly payroll, including 401(k) contributions, benefit deductions, garnishments, and related items
- Administer compensation and benefits programs, including open enrollment and salary reviews
- Implement performance appraisal systems and support performance improvement plans
- Consult with managers and leadership, providing HR guidance and support
- Support training and development initiatives
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM‑CP, or similar) preferred
- Strong knowledge of employment law, recruitment, employee relations, training and development, and benefits administration
- Experience with HRIS and timekeeping systems (required)
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization
