Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Human Resources Assistant to support day-to-day HR operations for a construction-focused organization in Troy, Michigan. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing administrative accuracy with employee-facing support across recruiting, onboarding, payroll, benefits, and records management.
The right candidate will help keep HR processes organized, timely, and compliant while providing responsive service to internal team members and applicants.
Responsibilities:
- Organize and maintain both digital and physical employee records, ensuring documentation is accurate, complete, and easy to retrieve.
- Prepare and process employment-related paperwork, including verification letters, offer materials, onboarding packets, and separation documents.
- Coordinate recruiting logistics by arranging interviews, scheduling assessments, managing candidate communication, and supporting travel planning when needed.
- Support pre-employment and onboarding activities by initiating background checks, tracking applicant data, preparing first-day materials, and helping schedule orientation activities.
- Partner with internal teams to arrange onboarding details such as badge requests, technology setup coordination, and completion tracking for required onboarding items.
- Review timekeeping information for accuracy before payroll processing, enter approved updates into HR/payroll systems, and generate routine payroll-related reports.
- Assist with benefits administration by handling enrollment paperwork, maintaining benefits records, answering basic employee questions, and directing complex issues to the appropriate HR contact.
- Keep HR calendars, department files, templates, forms, procedures, budgets, and invoices up to date while helping coordinate meetings and ongoing administrative needs.
- Contribute to employee engagement efforts by helping organize recognition activities, service awards, wellness initiatives, appreciation events, and broader company programs.
- Provide support for compliance and special HR initiatives, including records retention coordination, documentation tracking, organizational chart updates, and department projects. Requirements - 2+ years of experience in human resources support, HR administration, or a closely related administrative role.
- Associate's degree or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Working knowledge of HR processes such as onboarding, employee documentation, recruiting coordination, and payroll or benefits support.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with HRIS or payroll platforms such as ADP is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential employee and company information.
- Effective communication and customer service skills when assisting applicants, employees, and internal stakeholders. Talent Match®
