We are hiring a newly created Automation Engineer role to help scale and standardize automation capabilities across our portfolio of businesses and client programs. This position will be listed as hybrid; however, candidates located near one of our operating hubs in Minneapolis, Minnesota;
Troy, Michigan; or St. Louis, Missouri are strongly preferred. The role will eventually operate in a hybrid capacity, with consistent in‑office cadence while remaining flexible. Must be authorized to work in the United States. No visa sponsorship available for this role, including F‑1, OPT, CPT, H‑1B, or other visa sponsorship.
The Automation Engineer is the technical half of the two‑person team. They own the “how” – turning the Strategist’s process definitions into working, integrated automations that connect the company’s backend systems, data environments, and third‑party platforms. This is not a pure software engineering role and not a pure IT role; it sits in a productive middle ground that requires both technical depth and practical judgment.
In a portfolio business with diverse client programs, the engineer will frequently encounter bespoke integrations – data that does not quite match, APIs that do not quite fit, and systems that were not designed to talk to each other. The best person for this role is energized by that complexity rather than frustrated by it, and builds with reuse in mind from the start.
- Build and maintain integrations between internal systems, data environments, and third‑party platforms (Hub Spot, Workday, etc.)
- Develop automation workflows using low‑code/no‑code tools where appropriate, and custom code where necessary
- Design and implement data pipelines that feed automations with clean, structured inputs
- Manage authentication, permissions, and API credentials across integrated systems
- Establish and maintain standards for how automations are built, tested, documented, and monitored, including security and governance
- Build with observability in mind: logging, alerting, and failure handling from day one
- Ensure automations are resilient to edge cases, data inconsistencies, and system downtime
- Review and refactor existing automations as the portfolio of tools grows
- Build and integrate AI‑powered workflows including LLM‑based processing, classification, and generation steps
- Evaluate and integrate emerging automation and AI tooling appropriate to the company’s stack
- Support the Vibe Coding infrastructure used by the broader AI Builder community internally
- Build tooling that empowers less‑technical colleagues to extend automations without engineering support
- Work closely with the Automation Strategist…
