Maintenance Manager
Under the general direction of the Director of Community Services, the Parks Superintendent is responsible for planning, directing, and supervising the maintenance, operation, and improvement of the Township's parks, municipal grounds, recreation facilities, and custodial services. This position provides leadership to maintenance personnel, oversees daily operations, and ensures Township facilities are maintained in a safe, attractive, and efficient manner.
The Parks Superintendent is responsible for developing work schedules, managing personnel, coordinating capital improvement and maintenance projects, assisting with budget development and administration, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining accurate records utilizing the Township's computerized work order management system. The position collaborates with Township administration, engineers, contractors, consultants, and community organizations to provide exceptional public services and preserve Township assets.
Although work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Community Services, the Parks Superintendent exercises considerable independent judgment in planning work activities, allocating resources, supervising employees, responding to emergencies, and recommending operational improvements.

- Plans, organizes, schedules, and directs the daily operations of Township parks, municipal grounds, recreational facilities, and custodial services.
- Develops annual and seasonal maintenance programs for parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, landscaping, irrigation systems, trails, and public facilities.
- Oversee maintenance and burial operations while ensuring accurate records and respectful service to the public.
- Ensures Township facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, attractive, and operational condition.
- Coordinates preventive maintenance programs for buildings, park infrastructure, playground equipment, athletic facilities, irrigation systems, vehicles, and maintenance equipment.
- Utilizes the City's work order management software (City works) to document maintenance activities, track labor and materials, and monitor operational performance.
- Responds to emergencies including severe weather events, flooding, power outages, storm damage, and other incidents affecting Township facilities.
- Supervises, assigns, trains, mentors, and evaluates skilled and semi-skilled employees engaged in parks, grounds, custodial, and facility maintenance operations.
- Establishes work priorities and schedules to maximize operational efficiency and customer service.
- Conducts employee performance evaluations and recommends hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions, and corrective action plans.
- Promotes a culture of teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Ensures employees comply with Township policies, collective bargaining agreements, Develops, implements, and enforces safe work practices in accordance with OSHA, MIOSHA, and Township policies.
- Conducts regular safety meetings, inspections, and employee training.
- Ensures playgrounds comply with current playground safety standards and inspection requirements.
- Investigates accidents, prepares reports, and recommends corrective actions to reduce workplace hazards.
- Assists in preparing and administering the annual operating and capital budgets for the Parks Division.
- Monitors expenditures and recommends cost-effective purchasing strategies.
- Coordinates procurement of equipment, materials, supplies, and contracted services.
- Assists in fleet and equipment replacement planning and long-range capital improvement planning.
- Maintains accurate inventories of equipment, supplies, and park assets.
- Coordinates Park improvement projects, facility renovations, landscaping improvements, playground installations, and infrastructure maintenance.
- Oversees contractors and consultants performing work within Township parks and facilities.
- Collaborates with Township departments, engineers, architects, utilities, and regulatory agencies on construction and improvement projects.
- Responds professionally to resident concerns, service requests, and inquiries.
- Represents Community Services at meetings, community events, and public presentations as assigned.
- Develop effective working relationships with Township staff, elected officials, contractors, consultants, volunteers, community organizations, and the public.
- Serves as an essential employee during emergencies.
- Responds after normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, for emergencies affecting Township operations.
- Assists with snow removal, storm response, emergency debris removal, and other public.
