As the Student Supervisor for Engagement and Social Content Development, you will support the MSU Culinary Services Marketing and Communications team by overseeing a student team that interacts with the campus community, develops and implements campaigns, and assists with strategic communications on digital platforms. We are looking for the right person to enhance our social media through engagement techniques that are innovative, fun, creative and strategic.
This position will lead the student team in creating content that informs and educates followers and potential followers, helps them understand all that Culinary Services has to offer, communicates the value of its brands, and recognizes the department’s accomplishments. Candidates should be proud of the university dining program and able to inspire the campus community to purchase a dining plan, try new cuisine, explore unfamiliar locations, and learn about available opportunities and experiences.
TheStudent Supervisor for Culinary Services will:
- Work alongside the Communications Manager and the full Marketing and Communications team to enhance social media strategies.
- Assist with interviewing, onboarding, and scheduling Marketing student team members.
- Create original social media content and assist in scheduling content for department social media channels, including Facebook, X and Instagram.
- Direct social media students in identifying engagement opportunities, interacting with students and staff, capturing photos and videos, and conducting tabling events.
- Engage with students around campus to create authentic content, provide information about dining, and develop brand loyalty.
- Collaborate with the Culinary Services Marketing and Communications team to develop a departmental social media content strategy focused on analyzing audiences, achieving goals and objectives, and selecting success metrics.
- Understand the unique characteristics of each social media channel, use the social strategy as a guide, and tailor content to best leverage each environment.
- Follow platform updates, industry news and changing social media functionality and recommend ways to leverage new features.
- Track analytics to evaluate effectiveness and improve content.
- Maintain a record of positive mentions and interactions on social platforms to share with Culinary Services team members.
- Serve as a member of the Residential and Hospitality Services Social Media Committee and provide a student perspective to the divisional team.
- Occasionally assist with related duties such as crafting website content and designing graphics.
- Be enrolled as a student at Michigan State University during the academic year.
- Be familiar with dining plans and able to explain all options to other students.
- Have strong communication and organizational skills to direct student team members, plan social media posts, and initiate conversations with others.
- Be a motivated and creative self-starter with effective organizational skills.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt a message for the target audience.
- Have experience or coursework in communications, marketing, advertising, journalism or public relations.
- Have experience using social media platforms or management tools.
- Understand how different demographic groups, including prospective students of all ages and their families, use social media.
