About the Unit

The Post Surgical Care unit is a specialized unit designed to continue the recovery care of post‑surgical patients such as Same‑Day Surgery cases, post‑non‑operating room anesthesia cases, and post‑surgical patients from PACU who need less than 24 hours of hospital stay. The unit has a 14‑bed capacity and operates Monday to Saturday, closed on Sunday. Weekend rotation is every three weeks, and holiday rotation varies per department scheduling guidelines.

Strong surgical or progressive experience of two years is required to join our team.

The RN, under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient‑family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures and recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes.

The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning the plan of care and develops teaching strategies for patient/family; documents education and learning appropriately in the health record.

• Use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge patients.
• Provide quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader.
• Recognize the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes.
• Partner with patients and families, utilize input and goals in care planning, and develop teaching strategies.
• Document patient education and learning in the health record.

• Associate’s degree in Nursing.
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (within 5 years).
• Active MI Registered Nurse (RN).
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS).
• AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
• PALS within 6 months of hire or transfer.
• Specialty certification highly recommended within 2 years.
• 2 years of RN experience preferred.
• PCU or ICU experience preferred.

Part time. Shift: Night (U.S.). Weekly scheduled hours: 24 hours. Work 7:00pm to 7:30am, days worked vary Monday to Saturday. Weekend frequency variable.
