About the Unit

The Post Surgical Care unit is a specialized unit designed to continue the recovery care of post‑surgical patients such as same‑day surgery cases, post‑non‑operating room anesthesia cases, and post‑surgical patients from PACU who need less than 24 hours of hospital stay. The unit has a 14‑bed capacity and operates Monday through Saturday. A night shift schedule of 7:00pm–7:30am, 36 scheduled hours weekly is offered.

• Utilize the ANA scope of practice and nursing process to provide professional nursing care, including assessment, plan, implementation, evaluation, and discharge planning.
• Work under the direction of the Nurse Leader and in accordance with Corewell Health policies and procedures, recognizing the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes.
• Partner with patients and families to incorporate their input and goals into the plan of care.
• Develop and document teaching strategies for patients and families, ensuring education is appropriately recorded in the health record.

• Associate in Nursing required.
• Bachelor in Nursing required within five years.
• MI Registered Nurse (RN) required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
• PALS certification within six months of hire or transfer.
• Specialty certification highly recommended within two years.
• Two years of RN experience preferred.
• Experience in PCs or ICU preferred.
• Strong surgical or progressive experience for two years required.
• Compliance with a drug‑free workplace and vaccination requirements (MMR, Varicella, Tdap, Influenza) for on‑site or hybrid employees.
