Location: Michigan Institute of Urology – 130 Town Center Drive, Troy, MI

Schedule: Full-Time | Monday – Friday (40 Hours/Week) | Day Shift

About the Role

Are you a compassionate Registered Nurse who excels at patient engagement, direct outreach, and building connections? Michigan Institute of Urology (MIU) is seeking an outgoing, detail-oriented Clinical Research Navigator, RN to lead our patient outreach and study enrollment efforts in Troy, MI.

In this navigation-focused role, your primary focus is connecting with potential study candidates. You will review patient charts, initiate direct outreach, educate patients on advanced treatment options, and guide them through the initial enrollment pipeline. Prior clinical research experience is not required—we are seeking an RN with strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a passion for patient connection and care coordination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct Patient Outreach & Engagement: Conduct proactive outreach via phone, patient portal, and in-clinic visits to inform candidates about available clinical studies and encourage participation.
  • Pre-Screening & Candidate Evaluation: Review patient medical records and conduct preliminary phone screenings to evaluate initial study eligibility.

    Education:

    Explain study opportunities, answer candidate questions, build trust, and walk patients through the onboarding process.
  • Pipeline Tracking & Scheduling: Coordinate initial screening appointments with the study team and maintain accurate candidate tracking logs.

    Collaboration:

    Work alongside MIU urology providers and clinic staff to identify potential candidates within the practice population.
Candidate Qualifications
  • Required:
    • Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
    • Demonstrated experience in patient outreach, phone screening, care coordination, or patient navigation.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills, strong telephone presence, and a clear, persuasive communication style.
  • Preferred:
    • Background or clinical experience in Urology.
    • Familiarity with EPIC or similar Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
    • Experience handling candidate or patient outreach in a healthcare setting.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Clinical Research Navigator, RN is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the execution of studies and clinical trials. They have a hand in everything from recruiting study participants to creating study documentation, collecting patient data, and performing quality assurance audits to ensure study protocols are being followed

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Recruit and enroll study participants.
  • Input clinical research data into electronic data systems.
  • Coordinate patient visits and procedures related to research.
  • Act as resource for study participants by answering questions and explaining related procedures.
  • Ensure the study site is compliance with all local and federal laws and regulations.
  • Monitor study sites and activities to ensure the the appropriate industry protocols and terms of the study are being followed.
  • Oversee the hiring and training of staff members who are working on the study.
  • Create thorough documentation of study protocol and update it as needed.
  • Provide subject care and data collection procedures in adherence with the assigned study protocol and in accordance with good clinical research principals.
  • Review subject charts, database records, and other sources to screen and identify potential subjects for inclusion in study based on criteria described in the protocol.
