Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN) About Child Health Associates

At CHA, our Registered Nurses are an integral part of the care team. They work closely with physicians, fellow nurses, medical assistants, and administrative staff to provide safe, efficient, family-centered care to infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.

We are looking for a compassionate, dependable, organized, and team-oriented Registered Nurse who demonstrates strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing an exceptional experience for our patients and families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will perform responsibilities including, but not limited to:

Patient Triage & Clinical Care
  • Triage patient and parent/caregiver calls regarding illnesses, symptoms, behavioral concerns, medications, and other health concerns using established pediatric protocols and sound clinical judgment.
  • Provide appropriate home-care recommendations, education, and guidance regarding illness management, symptom monitoring, prevention, and when additional medical evaluation is needed.
  • Recognize changes in a patient's condition and appropriately elevate clinical concerns to a physician or other provider.
  • Provide in-office patient and parent education, including topics such as Epi Pen use, inhaler and spacer use, medication administration, wound care, and other clinical needs.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and other treatments as appropriate and within the RN scope of practice.
  • Perform venipuncture on patients in the office.
  • Assist physicians and other clinical team members with patient care and procedures as needed.
Patient Education & Preventive Care
  • Educate patients and families regarding health maintenance, preventive care, immunizations, medications, and healthy development.
  • Assist with identifying and tracking patients who are overdue for well-child visits, immunizations, or other recommended care.
  • Send appropriate reminders and perform outreach regarding well visits, vaccines, follow-up care, and other preventive health needs.
  • Assist with practice initiatives related to vaccine compliance and preventive care.
Follow-Up & Care Coordination
  • Perform appropriate follow-up with patients and families after hospitalizations, Emergency Department visits, Urgent Care visits, or other significant medical events.
  • Review and follow up on laboratory results, diagnostic reports, and other clinical information in collaboration with the patient's physician.
  • Assist with scheduling laboratory testing, imaging, and specialist appointments when needed.
  • Create referrals to Care Management and other services based on physician/provider recommendations.
  • Coordinate orders and referrals for services such as PT, OT, Speech Therapy, ABA Therapy, home medical equipment, phototherapy/bilirubin blankets, and other services as appropriate.
  • Communicate and coordinate care with specialists, hospitals, pharmacies, insurance companies, schools, and other healthcare or community organizations as appropriate.
Medication Management
  • Review and process medication refill requests according to established practice protocols and physician guidance.
  • Provide medication-related education to patients and caregivers.
  • Complete and submit medication and treatment prior authorization requests to insurance companies as needed.
  • Communicate medication-related questions or concerns to the appropriate physician/provider.
Forms, Documentation & Administrative Nursing Responsibilities
  • Complete health appraisal forms, school/daycare/camp forms, medication authorization forms, sports forms, work/school excuses, FMLA paperwork, 504 documentation, and other health-related documentation as appropriate.
  • Review and process incoming clinical faxes, patient portal messages, telephone encounters, and electronic health record tasks.
