Account Manager (Automotive Fasteners)

Troy, Michigan (Hybrid)

A global leader in engineered automotive fastening and attachment systems is seeking an experienced Account Manager to join its commercial team in Troy, Michigan. This hybrid position offers an outstanding opportunity to work with leading automotive OEMs and Tier One suppliers while supporting the launch of innovative fastening solutions used throughout today's vehicles.

The Account Manager will be responsible for growing existing business, developing new customer relationships, and identifying opportunities to increase market share across multiple vehicle platforms. This position requires a strong combination of technical aptitude, commercial acumen, and relationship‑building skills. Success in this role comes from becoming a trusted advisor to customer engineering, purchasing, and program management organizations.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute strategic account plans for assigned automotive OEM and Tier supplier customers.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities that support long‑term sales growth objectives.
  • Build strong relationships with engineering, purchasing, supplier quality, manufacturing, and executive‑level customer contacts.
  • Collaborate with customer engineering teams during product development to position fastening and attachment solutions early in the design cycle.
  • Promote innovative fastening technologies by conducting technical presentations, product demonstrations, and application reviews.
  • Coordinate activities between customers and internal engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program management teams.
  • Lead commercial activities from opportunity identification through quotation, negotiation, award, launch, and production.
  • Develop value‑based sales strategies that emphasize technical advantages, quality, cost savings, and manufacturing efficiencies.
  • Monitor customer product plans, vehicle launches, competitive activity, and industry trends to identify future growth opportunities.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of new business opportunities and provide accurate sales forecasting.
  • Support pricing strategy, contract negotiations, and profitability objectives.
  • Participate in vehicle benchmarking activities, customer engineering reviews, plant visits, and industry events.
  • Assist customers in resolving technical, commercial, and quality‑related issues while ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Travel throughout North America as required to support customer meetings and manufacturing locations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Engineering, Business, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of automotive sales or account management experience.
  • Experience selling engineered components, fasteners, plastic products, metal stampings, injection‑molded components, or similar automotive products.
  • Demonstrated success managing OEM and/or Tier One automotive supplier accounts.
  • Strong understanding of automotive product development and vehicle launch processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, and executive leadership.
  • Excellent negotiation, presentation, and relationship management skills.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with the ability to develop profitable growth strategies.
  • Self‑motivated professional capable of managing multiple customer programs simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM software.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25–40%.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineering degree with customer‑facing sales experience.
  • Experience with plastic injection‑molded components, stamped metal components, or engineered fastening systems.
  • Knowledge of automotive interiors, exteriors, body structures, chassis systems, fluid routing, or electrical component attachment.
  • Experience supporting new vehicle platform launches.
  • Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, IATF 16949, and automotive quality systems.
  • Experience working with global manufacturing organizations.
