Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe repair and troubleshooting of maintenance equipment. Activities include installation, preventative maintenance, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and decommissioning of equipment and machinery.
Primary Responsibilities- Provide hands‑on involvement and completion of tasks and/or direction to contractors or service companies to complete projects.
- Perform service work in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, pipe fitting, carpentry, plumbing, welding & fabrication, sheet metal working, machining, rigging, erection, HVAC, refrigeration, and other related tasks.
- Take a proactive approach to safety in all work activities.
- Assist in startup and shutdown of the facility, as needed.
- Order and schedule parts, materials, and services, research and purchase, and maintain records, files, manuals, and other shop maintenance related items.
- Maintain organization of the Maintenance Crib & Office, ensuring tools and equipment are in good operable condition.
- Ensure consumable parts and frequently used maintenance items are in inventory, organized, and available for use.
- Maintain all shop process control instrument calibration requirements.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and enforce industry guidelines set by OSHA, ANSI, EPA, NFPA, OCWD, and TS16949: 2002 Standards.
- Maintain 6S housekeeping and health and safety standards.
- Operate in a manner that reinforces, supports, and is consistent with the Cooper Standard Leadership Model.
- Be willing to perform duties other than those specified in this description.
- Be willing to work overtime as needed and directed by manager.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two‑year college degree or applicable technical training and certification is preferred.
- Typically has two plus years of experience with strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical problems.
- Experience with rubber and/or plastic extrusion/molding and extrusion equipment preferred.
- Strong communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; knowledge of Solid Works and Master Cam software a plus.
- Forklift, lift truck, or aerial lift operator experience is a plus.
- No supervisory responsibilities; manages own workload.
- Can read metric and imperial prints, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Can lift a minimum of fifty pounds.
- Positive teamwork and attitude required to support the manufacturing environment.
- Experience with MIOSHA standards and Lockout/Tagout preferred.
- Willingness and ability to travel as necessary.
Professional office environment. Must wear proper personal protective equipment while on the manufacturing floor and travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required. Equipment used requires proper training to avoid injury.
