Mobile Diesel Technician Level II
Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The Technician II continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques, and is expected to comply with all company policies and achieve high level performance metrics.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of truck equipment including, but not limited to, electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, air‑conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Inspect, test, and analyze defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, evaluate information, and determine alternatives using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory, perform periodic reconciliation, and operate the company‑issued service truck with safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work activities, and allocate time effectively.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards, upload photos and parts data on Repair Orders (RO) via iOS device and the TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
- Work independently and manage daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and meet or approach standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- High School Diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g., a related degree/certification and three or five years of related experience).
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
- Pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
- Have a current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until expiration; otherwise a DOT physical is required.
- Be at least 21 years old and a safe driver with a valid state‑of‑residence driver's license and the ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
