Mechanical Code Inspector (E11)

The Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC) is filling a vacant Mechanical Code Inspector position. The role is responsible for inspecting new mechanical installations to determine compliance with applicable laws, rules, and standards, ordering necessary work corrections when violations are identified, and regulating persons performing mechanical work. Responsibilities include disseminating information to permit holders, attending training seminars, and maintaining records and reports.

Requirements and Experience
  • Education:

    Completion of high school (or higher).
  • Mechanical Code Inspector E11:
    Six years of experience in the design, installation and repair of commercial heating, ventilating and air‑conditioning equipment and systems, including two years equivalent to an experienced‑level skilled trades designer, installer, or repairer.
  • Mechanical Code Inspector E12:
    Seven years of experience in the design, installation and repair of commercial heating, ventilating and air‑conditioning equipment and systems, including one year equivalent to a Mechanical Code Inspector E11.
Additional Requirements and Information
  • Upon appointment, individuals must meet the requirements of Act 407 of 2016 and become registered as a mechanical code inspector and plan reviewer.
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license.
