The Water & Sewer Division is dedicated to serving residents of the City of Troy by ensuring that the quality of the drinking water is above all standards and that water needed to fight fires is never compromised. They are also dedicated to ensuring the safe and efficient discharge of wastewater to the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) waste treatment facility.
DUTIES- Perform general labor and maintenance work, storm and sanitary sewer maintenance and clean-out, water main maintenance and repair, and locate underground utilities.
- Snow removal on major and subdivision roads.
- Operate and performs routine maintenance on light power equipment including boring machines, water and sewer maintenance equipment, jackhammers, etc.
- Use non-power tools including shovels, rakes, wrenches, wheelbarrows, etc.
- Perform other similar work assignments.
- High school graduate (or GED equivalent).
- Minimum of one year of paid experience in outdoor underground labor, including the use of light equipment such as shovels, picks, jackhammers, and similar tools.
- Must have at the time of application, and maintain, a valid Michigan driver license with a good driving record (based on City of Troy standards).
- Will be required to obtain a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License), including air brakes and (N) endorsement, and Medical Card as required by the State of Michigan before probation period is complete.
- As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen (including marijuana).
- Two (2) or more years of recent experience working on water main systems.
- Knowledge of the operation of mechanical and power equipment and traffic and safety rules and regulations concerning the use of this equipment.
- Current State of Michigan S-4 Water Distribution Certification or higher water distribution certification.
- Current CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) including air brakes and (N) endorsement.
- Applicants must receive at least a score of 70 on the interview to be placed on the eligible list.
- Successful applicant to be appointed within eight (8) weeks of being awarded the position.
- Vacancy will be filled pursuant to Article 22 Posting of Vacancy in the current AFSCME collective bargaining agreement.
Overtime is required; employees must work at least 50% of overtime occurrences offered.

The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) bargaining unit represents this position. There may be contract language which could impact the selection process.
