Job Description & How to Apply Below

We're hiring an experienced Crane Technician to service, inspect, and repair overhead lifting equipment at customer facilities throughout southeast Michigan. This is a field role — you'll run your day out of a company service vehicle, working independently at manufacturing plants, fabrication shops, warehouses, and steel service centers across the territory. Most days you'll be at two or three customer sites, and you'll be home most nights.

The work spans the full range of overhead lifting: top-running and under-running bridge cranes, gantries, jib cranes, monorails, and electric wire rope and chain hoists. You'll troubleshoot and repair 3-phase motor and control systems up to 480V, and you'll be the person the customer's maintenance manager talks to when a production crane goes down. Strong technicians in this role become the trusted point of contact for their accounts, which is why we pay for both the technical skill and the judgment to handle a customer well.

What

You'll Do
  • Perform OSHA- and ASME-compliant periodic and frequent inspections on overhead cranes and hoists, and document findings clearly and accurately
  • Troubleshoot and repair 3-phase motors, brakes, contractors, limit switches, VFDs, festoon and conductor bar systems, pendant and radio controls, and crane control panels operating at 480V and below
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical components including gearboxes, drive wheels, couplings, wire rope, load chain, sheaves, bumpers, and runway alignment issues
  • Read and work from electrical schematics, ladder logic, and mechanical drawings to isolate faults efficiently
  • Perform preventive maintenance, load testing, and post-repair verification
  • Respond to emergency service calls and downtime situations, including occasional after-hours and weekend coverage on a rotating basis
  • Identify and document additional repair needs, and communicate recommendations to the customer and the service manager for quoting
  • Complete service reports, inspection records, time entries, and parts documentation on a company-issued phone or tablet
  • Follow lockout/tagout, fall protection, and site-specific safety procedures without exception
  • 3+ years of hands-on industrial electrical and mechanical service experience — overhead crane and hoist experience strongly preferred, but we'll consider strong industrial maintenance, elevator, or heavy equipment field techs who understand 3-phase power
  • Working knowledge of 3-phase motor and control circuits up to 480V, including troubleshooting live systems safely
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical prints
  • Comfort working at heights — aerial lifts, man baskets, catwalks, and crane runways — and in active industrial environments
  • Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record; you'll be assigned a company vehicle
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in varied plant conditions including heat, cold, and dust
  • Self-directed work habits and the professionalism to represent the company on a customer's floor without supervision
Nice to Have
  • NCCCO, CIC, or equivalent inspector certification
  • OSHA 10 or 30
  • PLC troubleshooting experience
  • Familiarity with Konecranes, Demag, R&M, Shaw-Box, Yale, Coffing, or Columbus McKinnon equipment
  • Welding, rigging, or hoist rebuild experience
  • Company service vehicle, fuel card, phone/tablet, and specialty tools provided
  • Overtime and call-out pay
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Ongoing manufacturer and safety training, plus support toward inspector certification
  • Hourly Pay Target: $30-45+/hour depending on experience
