The Archdiocese of St. Louis strives to teach and share our faith, serve others, and foster unity throughout the St. Louis area. Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

The PSR Teacher is responsible for providing weekly religious education to children and helping students develop a deeper knowledge, understanding, and love of God and the Catholic Church. The PSR Teacher prepares students for the sacraments as appropriate and supports the parish's mission of educating and evangelizing children in partnership with their families.

The PSR Teacher creates a welcoming, safe, and faith-filled classroom environment while teaching Catholic doctrine, Scripture, prayer, and Church tradition in an age-appropriate and engaging manner.

Teach an assigned PSR (Parish School of Religion) class, typically meeting weekly for students in grades 1–8.

Follow the approved parish or diocesan religious education curriculum.

Prepare and deliver engaging lessons appropriate to the students' age and level of understanding.

Integrate Sacred Scripture, Catholic doctrine, prayer, and Church tradition into classroom instruction.

Prepare students for the sacraments, including First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation, as assigned.

Foster students' understanding of Catholic beliefs and encourage them to develop an active relationship with God.

Maintain a safe, respectful, welcoming, and faith-filled classroom environment.

Encourage participation in prayer, discussion, activities, and other faith-formation experiences.

Collaborate with the Coordinator of Religious Education, parish staff, and fellow catechists.

Communicate appropriately with parents and families regarding student participation, progress, and parish faith-formation opportunities.

Attend required catechist meetings, training sessions, workshops, and retreats.

Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and parish matters.

Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating active faith, Catholic values, kindness, respect, and integrity in word and action.

Support parish events and faith-formation activities as appropriate.

Perform other duties related to religious education as assigned.

Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church.

Genuine desire and commitment to share and teach the Catholic faith to children.

Knowledge and understanding of Catholic teachings, Scripture, traditions, and the sacraments.

Willingness to continue learning and growing in Catholic faith formation and catechetical practices.

Previous teaching, catechetical, ministry, or youth-related experience is helpful but not required.

Patient, enthusiastic, dependable, and able to relate positively to children and families.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Ability to create a positive and respectful learning environment.

Willingness to work collaboratively with parish staff, parents, and other catechists.

Completion of required parish or diocesan Safe Environment training.

Successful completion of required background screening and other applicable parish or diocesan requirements.
