Medication Room Supervisor (LPN)

Heartwood Assisted Living Community is seeking a dedicated and experienced Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to serve as our Medication Room Supervisor. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the medication room, supervising Medication Technicians, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting safe, accurate medication administration for our residents.

The ideal candidate is an organized leader with strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering exceptional care in an assisted living setting.

Essential Responsibilities Leadership
  • Supervise and support Medication Technicians and medication room staff.
  • Provide coaching, training, and ongoing guidance to ensure compliance with medication administration policies and procedures.
  • Conduct routine audits of medication carts, medication administration records (MARs), and documentation.
  • Assist with scheduling, staffing, and daily workflow within the medication room.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, and excellence in resident care.
Medication Management
  • Oversee medication ordering, receiving, storage, inventory, and reconciliation.
  • Ensure medications are properly secured, labeled, and stored in accordance with New York State regulations.
  • Monitor medication expiration dates and coordinate medication returns and proper disposal.
  • Investigate medication discrepancies and complete required documentation.
  • Maintain accurate medication records and ensure timely documentation of medication administration.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations, assisted living standards, and community policies.
  • Prepare the medication room and documentation for Department of Health surveys and regulatory inspections.
  • Conduct routine quality assurance audits of medication administration records (MARs) and medication storage.
  • Monitor infection prevention practices and medication safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with physicians, pharmacies, leadership, and interdisciplinary staff to resolve medication-related concerns.
Resident Care
  • Administer medications and treatments within the LPN scope of practice and facility policies.
  • Monitor residents for medication effectiveness, side effects, and changes in condition.
  • Communicate resident concerns to physicians, families, and the interdisciplinary care team as appropriate.
  • Support residents by ensuring timely, accurate, and compassionate medication administration.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain confidential resident medication records.
  • Complete reports related to medication compliance, incidents, audits, and inventory.
  • Assist leadership with policy implementation, education, and process improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of New York (Required).
  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience, preferably in assisted living, long-term care, or skilled nursing.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medication administration, medication management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Current CPR certification (preferred).
