Construction Project Engineer | Some Experience Required

Location:

Troy/Tipp City, Ohio – Serving the Miami Valley & Greater Dayton Area

This hands‑on role is mostly office‑based, with some opportunities to get into the field. What You’ll Do:

1. Pre‑Construction & Project Planning
  • Join meeting with estimating and production before project start to discuss bid strategy and project approach
  • Ensure completion of subcontracts and purchase orders
  • Attend pre‑construction meetings
  • Review submittals, get approval from PM as needed, submit to owner, track progress and follow up. Send approved submittals to subcontractors/suppliers.
  • Work with Project Managers &/or Estimators to ensure permits, OUPS tickets, and other time‑sensitive approvals are in place before project starts and follow up to maintain project schedules.
2. Project Execution & Field Management
  • Set up project in Procore and One Drive for Plans, Specs, etc.
  • Create/Track/Follow up on RFIs, PCOs, keep logs updated.
  • Follow up on PCOs to ensure Change Orders are approved before work is done.
  • Attend Progress Meetings as‑needed, take notes, and follow up on action items.
  • Manage distribution of revised plans & addenda to subcontractors
  • Support compiling daily quantities for invoice tracker and reviewing subcontractor invoices.
  • Follow up on all change orders and T&M work to ensure it's approved and invoiced.
  • Create and maintain purchase orders.
  • Approving subcontractor & supplier invoices, along with proper cost coding.
4. Project Closeout
  • Assist with completion of punch list items as needed.
  • Prepare/provide any required warranty/redline drawings & documentation.
  • Conduct post‑project financial/job costing reports to analyze project outcomes and assist with future bids.
5. Other Scopes/Responsibilities
  • Fill in as a laborer/right hand man on crews as needed.
What You’ll Bring :

Required:
  • Lead by caring about the person first, then the task.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple teams.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, and email.
  • Experience with Construction Management Software (e.g. Procore, HCSS, etc).
  • Knowledge of construction scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
  • Natural desire for efficiency, ability to continuously optimize processes and systems to eliminate redundancy and improve speed and accuracy.
  • Hands‑on experience in excavation and civil construction.
  • Experience in reading blueprints and completing project paperwork.
  • Ability to work cohesively with our team while independently owning your scope.
Preferred:
  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience managing subcontractors, materials, and field logistics.
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills with the ability to adapt to changing project needs.
  • Class A CDL
