Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are seeking an Electrical Hardware Designer with upper mid-level to lower senior-level experience to take full ownership of electrical hardware design for custom robotic automation systems.

This is a lead individual-contributor role. The Electrical Hardware Designer will independently design complete electrical systems—from concept through commissioning support—while owning, maintaining, and improving FDI’s electrical standards and templates. This role is expected to evolve into senior technical leadership and potentially an Electrical Design Manager position as the company grows.

Core Responsibilities
  • Own the complete electrical hardware design lifecycle for custom automation systems
  • Develop schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, I/O lists, and BOMs using Solid Works Electrical
  • Design power distribution, safety circuits, and industrial networks
  • Ensure designs are efficient, buildable, serviceable, and schedule-aligned
  • Maintain and continuously improve electrical standards and templates

Act as the internal authority on component selection and design conventions
  • Support panel build and system integration through technical guidance (non-hands-on)
  • Collaborate closely with controls engineers, mechanical designers, and project managers
Compliance & Safety
  • Design systems compliant with UL 508A, NFPA 79, NEC, and applicable customer standards
  • Ensure proper documentation for UL panel and safety compliance
  • Implement and document machine safety systems correctly
Experience & Qualifications (Experience-First)
  • 5–10+ years of experience in electrical hardware design for custom industrial automation
  • Proven ability to independently own electrical designs end-to-end
  • Strong proficiency with Solid Works Electrical
  • Broad knowledge of industrial control panels, power distribution, and machine safety
  • Experience in an Engineer-To-Order (ETO) environment
  • Degree preferred but not required
Preferred Experience
  • Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation platforms
  • Ethernet/IP and industrial networking
  • UL panel design and commissioning support
What Success Looks Like
  • Panels build cleanly with few shop questions
  • Standards improve design speed and consistency
  • Electrical design scales smoothly as the team grows
Growth Path

This role is designed to grow into Senior Electrical Hardware Designer and ultimately Electrical Design Manager as additional designers are hired.

Why us
  • Challenging, one-off automation projects
  • Real ownership and authority
