Accounting Manager, Financial Reporting
Position Details
The Controller is responsible for overseeing the organization’s accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, integrity and timeliness of financial records and reporting. This includes managing day-to-day accounting functions, supporting budgeting and financial analysis, ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations and playing a key role in audits and internal controls. This role partners closely with the VP of Finance to support strategic financial decision-making while maintaining strong operational discipline.
Responsibilities- Oversee the general ledger month‑end and year‑end close processes and preparation of accurate and timely financial statements
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting and cash reconciliations
- Ensure proper accounting treatment for revenue, expenses, grants, restricted funds and accruals
- Maintain and enforce accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP
- Prepare internal financial reports, schedules and analyses for management and leadership
- Support external audits, tax filings and regulatory reporting requirements
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations, including required state registrations and reporting
- Maintain strong internal controls and recommend improvements as needed
- Collaborate with the VP of Finance on budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
- Monitor budget‑to‑actual performance and investigate significant variances
- Provide financial data insights to support operational and strategic planning
- Oversee accounting systems and ensure data integrity across financial platforms
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy and internal controls
- Assist with implementation of new systems, processes or reporting tools
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, assist in recruiting, staff training and performance feedback
- Assist in analyzing financial data by reviewing reports, identifying trends and variances, and using those insights to ensure accurate reporting, cost control, and informed decision‑making
- Partner with program, development and operations teams to ensure accurate financial data
- Monitor cash flow on a weekly basis and prepare reports for management and leadership
- Monitor outstanding pledges and facilitate follow‑up with donors, management and regional teams as needed
- Supervise accounting staff with tracking grants and events; ensure accurate application of dimensions within Sage Intacct; prepare and provide financial information to regional directors and grant writers as needed; track ROI for PRG events and share with project managers, regional teams and management
- Review merchandise entries in Shopify and Sage Intacct for accuracy; ensure inventory counts are being held as needed (at least quarterly) and review for reasonableness; work with marketing to ensure merchandise policies and procedures are followed
- Reconcile other balance sheet accounts not performed by accounting staff on a monthly basis
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, CPA or MBA preferred
- At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, nonprofit accounting experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills
- Experience managing month‑end close and audit processes
- Ability to effectively communicate financial information to non‑financial stakeholders
- Exhibits initiative, integrity and sound judgment; maintains confidentiality
- Ability to organize work within the finance department, set priorities, meet deadlines and follow‑up on assignments; self‑motivated
- Working knowledge of computer hardware, software and networks

This position requires the Controller to work in an office environment and required attendance at flagship Pink Ribbon Good Sponsored events. This is a full time position with hours 9am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday, working out of our headquarters in Dayton, Ohio.
