DESCRIPTION
The Senior Tax Analyst reports to the Director of Tax and is involved in tax compliance and research throughout the System. The Senior Tax Analyst also coordinates the annual reporting of Community Benefit information throughout the System. This position will have significant interaction with different areas throughout the System including accounting, financial and administrative staff of various Business Units, legal, payroll, HR, etc.
Under minimal supervision, the Senior Tax Analyst will be responsible for preparing or reviewing tax returns, researching tax laws, responding to notices from tax authorities and maintaining the System tax compliance calendar. In addition, special projects may be assigned by management, as needed.
- Prepare or review federal, state and local tax returns and related work papers.
- Interpret federal, state and local tax statutes, regulation and legislation.
- Provide guidance on specific tax issues based on research of tax laws, regulations and statutes.
- Monitor tax regulatory developments and tax law changes.
- Coordinate the gathering and reporting of Community Benefit information throughout the System.
- Prepare and calculate estimated tax payments and extensions.
- Provide timely responses to tax notices and other inquiries from federal, state and local authorities.
- Ensure adequate documentation for tax positions taken.
- Identify transactions that require special handling for tax purposes and recommend the appropriate tax treatment as well as possible alternatives.
- Maintain tax compliance calendar throughout the System.
- Perform special projects, as necessary.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field and four years' work‑related experience in tax compliance is required.
- A CPA certification, non‑profit tax compliance experience, or a Master's Degree in Taxation is preferred.
- General knowledge of tax laws and regulations specifically relating to tax‑exempt organizations.
- Ability to perform tax research.
- Proficiency in preparing tax returns using Pro System Fx or comparable tax software.
