Position: PATIENT ACCESS SPECIALIST

Overview

UPPER VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER – PATIENT ACCESS SPECIALIST / REGISTRATION (PRN / DAY SHIFT, FLEX, FLOAT, MUST BE ABLE TO WORK WEEKENDS, HOLIDAYS)
• 8 HOURS PER PAY PERIOD

The Patient Access Specialist is responsible for financial counseling, collecting co-pays and deductibles and/or providing financial assistance education to patients and their families. They are responsible for stat registering, scheduling appointments, and completing registration by collecting and entering all pertinent financial and demographic information into the ADT system, verifying insurance benefit information, generation of the ABN, reviewing orders for compliance, completing MSP, obtaining financial and treatment consents, placing ordered medical procedures, and obtaining pre-certification when applicable while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Financial counseling and collection of co-pays and deductibles; provide financial assistance education to patients and families.
  • Stat registering, scheduling appointments, and completing registration by collecting and entering all pertinent financial and demographic information into the ADT system.
  • Verify insurance benefit information and generate ABNs as required.
  • Review orders for compliance; complete MSP; obtain financial and treatment consents.
  • Place ordered medical procedures and obtain pre-certification when applicable, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy rights at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, physician offices, patients, and co-workers; demonstrate excellent customer service.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma / GED
  • Additional Requirements: Preferred educational qualifications:
    Associate’s Degree in healthcare or related business field.
  • Position-specific testing: Must be proficient in Windows-based computer technology, including keyboarding and typing at least 25 wpm.
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Medical Terminology certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 - 3 years of job-related experience; preferred experience in customer service, general clerical/office, hospital, medical office/clinic, or insurance company. Applicable class work may be substituted for previous work experience.
