Summary
The Vice President of Business Development, reporting to the President, is responsible for identifying strategic growth opportunities, developing and executing business development strategies aligned with our mission, resulting in revenue growth. This senior leadership role involves managing multiple departments and functional areas, across sales and marketing for welding training programs, corporate training offerings, and curriculum.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Develop and implement comprehensive business development strategies, achieving organizational objectives across services and product offerings.
- Prepare and present detailed reports to the leadership team and HIWT Board of Directors, regarding business development activities, market trends, competitive insights, opportunities, and strategies to drive growth.
- Assist with the development of the annual budget and monitor performance to meet financial goals.
- Build relationships and engage partners and clients by providing tours and presentations to enhance brand awareness and promote products and services (at HIWT, conferences, trade shows, client facilities, etc.).
- Identify and establish new partnerships while maintaining existing relationships to strengthen our brand and promote growth both domestically and internationally.
- Support capital funding efforts aligned with key initiatives.
- Direct the Marketing and Career Services team, including the development and oversight of marketing campaigns. Assist with analysis and reporting on progress and outcomes.
- Manage and mentor the team of business development representatives. Assist with negotiating and closing business agreements as necessary.
- Direct curriculum development and the bookstore teams, ensuring product development and delivery methods serve the industry and provide market-leading resources/training tools.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to all direct reports, including establishing goals, identifying development opportunities, assigning training, and conducting annual reviews.
- Drive communication between internal departments, ensuring sales, marketing, development, and product/services delivered are aligned.
- Accountable for compliance with institute policies, federal, state, and local regulations, and applicable accreditation standards.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Communicate effectively at all levels, including with executives, board members, direct reports, and customers.
- Perform public speaking with demonstrated experience.
- Ability to build relationships, secure deals, and form partnerships, through strong negotiation and deal‑making abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership with the ability to motivate, lead, and manage change, achieving organizational growth.
- Develop long‑term and short‑term business strategies that align with and facilitate the vision of the organization.
- Analyze market needs, customer data, and competitor activities to identify growth opportunities and make data‑driven business decisions.
- Possess strong financial acumen with the ability to develop reports, budgets, and forecasts.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives.
- 10+ years of business development/sales with a proven track record.
- 8+ years of leadership experience.
- Hobart Institute of Welding Technology Graduate desired.
- Bachelor degree in business or related field preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector preferred.
- Prior experience in Education and Training preferred.
- Prior experience with 501(c)3 organizations preferred.
- Automation and Manufacturing experience is a plus.
- International Business experience is a plus.
- Proficient in MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with CRM platforms.
This position operates in a mixed environment, with most time spent in a professional office setting and occasional visits to labs or industrial environments at the HIWT campus and at client facilities. The role commonly utilizes standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
Physical Demands- Routine standing and walking required.
- Regular sitting, talking, and hearing required.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
This position requires up to 40% travel, with some overnights and weekends required.
