Deeply Rooted Landscapes Nursery/Garden Technician
Deeply Rooted Landscapes is a veteran and woman-owned native plant landscaping company and nursery serving the Miami Valley and Dayton, Ohio, area since 2019. We help our clients create ecologically beneficial landscapes, working in all settings, from backyard gardens to HOAs to corporate buildings and local parks. DRL grows and sells native Midwest trees, shrubs, perennials, grasses, spring ephemera ls, and more!
Our services for clients include garden consultations, design, installation, invasive plant removal, maintenance, and plant sales. Your Yard Is Habitat!
Seasonal (March through November), Part-Time, 18 - 32 hours per week.
Location:HQ is at 1230 N Montgomery County Line Road, Tipp City, Ohio 45371, but up to 40% of the time for this position will be spent on client sites.
Duties:- Nursery/Garden preparation: weeding, laying down cardboard, and spreading wood chips/mulch.
- Nursery/Garden maintenance: planting, weeding, pruning, cutting grass, and weed whacking.
- Stratify and sow seed.
- Prepare orders and assist with nursery shoppers.
- Safe handling and responsible application of herbicides when necessary.
- Use and maintain gardening equipment, such as trowels, pruners, shovels, soil knives, and wheelbarrows.
- Operate electrical equipment like weed whackers, lawnmowers, chainsaws, and basic hand tools.
- Assist with plant sales and events (on a rotating schedule).
- Garden installation: lay out plants based on design, dig holes, plant, weed, and water.
- Take photos and videos for use on the website and social media.
- Communicate with the team as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Passion for the natural world.
- Ability to perform physical labor in an outdoor environment, which includes but is not limited to standing, bending, reaching, and pulling. We work in all weather conditions, including heat, rain, and extreme cold.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- A willingness to learn and follow directions.
- Team player.
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize and juggle competing tasks.
- Experience with Google Suite (particularly Google Sheets) and comfort with spreadsheets.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to operate motorized landscaping equipment and vehicles.
- Plant identification and basic botany knowledge are a benefit but not a requirement. The desire to learn plant identification and gardening techniques on the job is essential.
