ASC Training Center is a historic nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to snow sports across Northern California since 1928. Rooted on Donner Summit, ASC has built a legacy of developing athletes, building character, and creating opportunity through mountain sport.

Today, ASC operates a year-round Snow sports Training Center that supports athletic development from entry-level through elite competition. Programs include Alpine, Snowboard, Nordic, and Biathlon, with ASC serving as a USSS and FIS-sanctioned training and competition venue.

In addition to competitive programming, ASC operates a 25-kilometer Nordic Center open to the public, providing community access to high-quality cross-country skiing and winter recreation.

Function:
Responsible for the Nordic and Biathlon programming at the ASC Training Center. Ensures Nordic and Biathlon programming, scheduling, and competitions act within the ASCTC mission, vision, and strategic plan. The Nordic Sports Director is a member of the leadership team that includes ED, PD's, admin and accounting staff.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Plan, manage, coach and execute the Nordic programs at the ASC Training Center consisting of entry level programs through development, varsity school teams and high level competition ski teams. Includes managing a year-round training schedule, hosting competitions, travel to competitions, clinics, lessons, camps and program participation in the Far West Nordic, USSS, FIS and CNISSF. Work with the Competition Services Department to host and execute competitions.
  • Develop and execute technical progressions that provide athletes with a path to reach their fullest potential and enjoy a life-long passion for snow sports that meet the ASCTC Mission, Vision, and Strategic plan. Works with the leadership team to develop recruitment strategies, manage overall and program communications, general Training Center operations, coordination of overall Training Center schedule, and provide website, social media and printed content.
  • Recruit, hire, train and schedule paid coaching staff and volunteer coaches to meet the needs of the program and athletes. In coordination with HR, ensure all employee onboarding is complete prior to work. Coordinate with and oversee the Biathlon PD to conduct joint ski training sessions, shared trail/training space, manage and maintain race equipment and mutually support programs to meet shared development goals for cross-country and biathlon athletes.

    Develop and implement staff Risk :tvfanagement training and athlete safety protocols, adhere ASC operational policies and procedures and risk management.
  • Develop an annual budget in coordination with the ED. Participate in capital improvement and strategic planning with the leadership team and Board of Directors. Prepare reports for the Board of Directors and Executive Director.
  • As a member of the leadership team performs other tasks and special projects that may be assigned from time-to-time including but not limited to, website, social media, email newsletters, advertising, collateral materials, registration, public relations and HR.
  • Qualifications:
    • Extensive proven technical knowledge and passion for Nordic racing
    • Proven ability to positively inspire athletes of all ages and skill levels
    • Proven organizational, communication and writing skills
    • Submission of a motor vehicle record acceptable to ASC insurance
    • Proven customer service skills working with all ages of athletes and families and assisting them in fully enjoying the winter sports opportunities ASC provides.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment as part of a team and be productive when unsupervised.
    • Proven organizational, communication and writing skills, computer proficiency.
    • Proven skills and proficiency using hand tools and equipment as may be required.
    • Ability to work safely in winter weather and all snow surface both on and off skis/snowboard.
    • Ability to perform tasks that may require lifting up to 50lbs on and off snow.
    • USSS Certification
    • Successful completion of company and state employment requirements.
