Responsibilities- Clinical Care – The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as part of an interdisciplinary team. The NP works in inpatient, ambulatory, and outpatient settings, collaborates with supervising physicians in accordance with state law and hospital regulations, performs medical histories, physical examinations, reviews diagnostic/therapeutic tests, formulates treatment plans, performs procedures, prescribes medication, and may assist in operative cases within scope.
- Patient Education & Psychosocial Support – The NP educates patients/families on care and resources, collaborates with MDs on instructions, treatment plans, medication side‑effects, and discharge planning, and provides psychosocial support to patients and families.
- Information Management – The NP ensures appropriate documentation per hospital and regulatory requirements and protects all patient information from unauthorized access or disclosure.
- Quality Management – The NP demonstrates high ethical standards, professionalism, compassion, and commits to patient care while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
- Professional Development – The NP engages in projects that advance professional competency, serves as a clinical resource and preceptor for house staff and students, reports safety events, collaborates on research, quality assurance, and performance improvement projects.
- Education – Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program.
- Experience – 2+ years of clinical experience as an NP/PA preferred; cardiology experience preferred; experience managing patients with acute and chronic heart failure, IV diuretic therapy, advanced heart failure care, or remote cardiac monitoring is a plus.
- Licensure – Active PA certification (NCCPA), Connecticut State PA license, ACLS/BLS certified (when indicated); DEA license (when indicated). For nursing:
Connecticut State RN license, Connecticut State NP license, board specialty certification as appropriate. Additional licensure, certifications, or continuing education credits may be required during employment.
