Skilled Laborer
Skilled Laborers work in the construction and/or maintenance of assigned areas and public facilities throughout the City of Trussville. The duties they perform require the use of power tools and mechanical equipment, which require set up, adjustment, and operational knowledge, skills, and physical abilities used in digging, excavating, cutting, and repair work.
Conducts necessary equipment maintenance tasks including loading, cleaning, fueling and repairing all equipment, supplies, and tools to ensure proper storage, safety and efficiency. Performs proper preparatory tasks including gathering all necessary tools and materials, conducting pre-trip inspections on all equipment to be used, loading, and unloading equipment and materials, etc. The duties team members will perform require the use of hand tools, power tools, specialized equipment, trucks, trailers, and tractors.
Team members need an eye for detail, minor problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to work with others to accomplish tasks and goals. Work is primarily outdoors; the ability to cope with heat, cold, and wet environments is vital. Team members need to understand and implement oral and written instructions. Perform proper mowing, string trimming, edging, pruning, mulching, and removing debris and refuse from park common areas, greenway, cemeteries, sports fields, roadways, and public facilities throughout the City of Trussville.
Perform basic maintenance and care of mowers, power tools, hand tools, and vehicles. Organize and keep work storage areas in a neat, clean, and professional manner. Assist with set up and tear down of special events throughout the City of Trussville. Work in the construction and/or maintenance of streets, roadways, drainage systems, utility lines, buildings, and other public facilities. Skilled Laborers may operate trucks and other equipment for transporting personnel and tools to and from work sites, and in loading, unloading and moving materials.
Assists skilled craftsmen (e.g., plumbers, carpenters, painters, electricians, etc.) with necessary repairs to County/City facilities, responds to emergency calls, and other miscellaneous duties as needed. Conducts necessary and assigned maintenance functions for streets and sidewalks including patching potholes, repairing utility cuts, repairing damaged sidewalks, concrete work, etc. Conducts necessary and assigned maintenance functions for sewer lines, storm drains, culverts, etc.
including assisting with laying pipes, digging trenches, clearing storm drains, repairing culverts and headwalls, etc.
Driver's license. Experience performing one or more of the following: using measuring equipment (e.g., tape measure, level); using hand tools (e.g., screwdriver, hammer, saw, rake, shovel); using gas powered equipment (e.g., weed eater, mower, chainsaw, compactor); mixing concrete.
Work is primarily performed at outdoor worksites such as roadways and construction sites. Work may also involve the use of various hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. Workers may be exposed to weather conditions, such as extreme hot or cold temperatures, or other potentially hazardous conditions such as near roadway traffic, etc. Job involves moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of lifting, carrying, balancing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Job may involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
