Position Summary

The Construction Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs that promote a safe and healthy work environment across construction projects. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, local, and company safety regulations while fostering a culture of safety accountability and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific and company-wide safety programs.
  • Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Facilitate safety orientations for new employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
  • Conduct ongoing safety training, toolbox talks, and educational programs.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and local regulations, as well as company safety policies.
  • Review of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and site-specific safety plans.
  • Monitor and document safety performance metrics, trends, and corrective actions.
  • Partner with project managers, superintendents, and field personnel to proactively address safety concerns.
  • Manage workers' compensation claims and return-to-work programs, as applicable.
  • Maintain records of inspections, incidents, training, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Participate in project planning meetings to identify and mitigate potential safety risks before work begins.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies during inspections and investigations.
  • Support emergency preparedness planning and response activities.
  • Recommend improvements to safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5+ years of construction safety experience, preferably in commercial, industrial, heavy civil, or specialty construction environments.
  • Equivalent combination of education and construction safety experience may be considered.
  • Experience conducting safety audits, investigations, and training programs.
  • Knowledge of construction means, methods, and field operations.
Certifications

Preferred certifications:

  • OSHA 500 or OSHA 510
  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician)
  • ASP/CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
  • Strong leadership and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to influence safe behaviors across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management software.
  • Ability to prepare reports, analyze trends, and develop corrective action plans.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in working with regulatory agencies, such as Oreong OSHA, L&I, CalOSHA, etc.
