GENERAL DUTIES

SUMMARY:

Tigard Tualatin School District is committed to equitable outcomes for all students especially for those that are underserved. The Dean of Students will provide support to school administrators for the overall leadership and achievement of this goal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with student attendance, supervision, and management.
  • Meet with students, families, and staff to discuss attendance and/or behavior that may inform behavior plans/agreements.
  • Coordinate and facilitate pre-truancy meetings with families.
  • Provide coaching support and resources to staff on effective and culturally responsive classroom management practices.
  • Keep adequate student records using district and/or building adopted student management systems.
  • Collect, interpret, monitor and utilize quantitative and qualitative data to improve student attendance and student management programs outcomes especially for marginalized students.
  • Assist in developing programs to promote positive student behavior as well as intervention strategies (EBIS/PBS Team member).
  • Participate on the building Equity Team.
  • Coordinate an alternative placement for dysregulated students.
  • Participate in student services meetings such as behavior plans, IEPs, 504s, suspensions, pre-expulsion conferences, and the like.
  • Supervise students during extracurricular, evening, and non-instructional activities such as bus loading, lunch, and transitions.
  • Assist in the facilitation of meetings with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Assist with monitoring and supervision of school facilities.
  • Assist in organizing state testing and improving student success.
  • May serve as lead building administrator in the absence of administration.
  • Reports to and keeps building administration updated and informed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • Ability to build and maintain harmonious relationships with diverse students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
  • Maintains integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons.
  • Ability to coordinate and supervise the work of others.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with trauma informed and restorative practices.
  • Understanding of current educational theory, practice and trends in student management.
  • Willingness to grow in professional knowledge and practice.

Preferred:

  • Bilingual, bicultural and biliterate abilities in English and Spanish or other languages related to the student and family population of the District
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Culturally Responsive Teaching Framework.
  • Demonstration of a strong equity lens and knowledge of culturally responsive practices.
  • Experience creating and leading the implementation of Behavior Support Plans.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Holds or qualifies to obtain an appropriate license from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Oregon or may be currently enrolled in administrative credential program.
