In alignment with the NWRESD's mission statement, this position works under the overall supervision of the building principal, with direct instructions provided by early learning or special education teachers. They are employed to carry out program activities as planned and scheduled by licensed personnel, which includes implementing activities related to the student's IEP or IFSP in individual and small groups. The position monitors student safety and behavior in various settings.

Duties can vary based on the age of the students served and the nature of student(s) needs.

A bilingual instructional assistant is defined as one who is fluent in both English and the primary language of the students identified as English language learners, and shall demonstrate cultural competency related to the students in the bilingual classes to which the bilingual instructional assistant is assigned. • 1. High School Diploma or equivalent
• 2. Fluent in English and Spanish
• 3. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in both English and Spanish
• 4. Ability to physically assist students with special needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.)
• 5. Ability to lift students from a wheelchair to the floor and back, and on and off a changing table.
