The Customer Quality Engineer (CQE) ensures full adherence to customer specifications and quality requirements throughout the product lifecycle. This role emphasizes translating customer requirements into effective internal processes, developing capable, compliant manufacturing processes, and evaluating organizational and process capabilities to meet customer needs at quote time. This role involves interpreting technical documents, flow-down requirements, and creating actionable, compliant work instructions to ensure regulatory and customer compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Blend technical engineering knowledge, cost estimation, and production scheduling to ensure component parts are manufactured per customer drawings and delivered on time and within budget.
- Ensure customer specifications are fully flowed down into internal processes and control plans through the creation of work instructions.
- Facilitate and implement new processes with Planning and Operations.
- Serve as the primary quality point of contact for customer quality requirements and specification clarification.
- Monitor and ensure ongoing compliance with customer-specific and regulatory requirements.
- Support new product introductions and engineering changes with a focus on process readiness and customer quality expectations.
- Lead or support the development of quality processes that embed customer requirements into product and process design.
- Evaluate process engineering changes and work with the team to assess manufacturing impacts.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on defect prevention and process capability.
- Participate in the development and prototyping phase of customer-designed new parts, providing feedback on design for manufacturability (DFM) and current capabilities.
- Evaluate internal manufacturing, inspection, and testing capabilities against customer specifications.
- Identify gaps, risks, and special requirements at the time of quote and recommend mitigation plans.
- Provide quality input for additional costs and lead time to Sales and Program Management.
- Ensure customer-specific requirements are clearly defined and documented upon contract acceptance.
- Create internal procedures and controls for compliance with customer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience in customer or supplier process development.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and AS‑9100 preferred.
