Senior Materials & Manufacturing Process Engineer

Location: Tualatin, OR (Onsite)

Pay Rate: $80–$85/hour (W2)

Duration: 12-Month Contract (Possible Extension)

Travel: Up to 25%

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Materials & Manufacturing Process Engineer to support new product development, supplier qualification, and manufacturing process optimization for advanced engineering products. This role partners with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to develop, qualify, and improve products from prototype through production and initial field deployment.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in materials engineering, manufacturing processes, failure analysis, and product qualification, with experience leading cross‑functional initiatives in a high‑technology manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead product development activities from prototype through production release and initial field support.
  • Drive supplier qualification, manufacturing readiness, and quality improvement initiatives across global suppliers.
  • Design and execute experiments to investigate complex technical issues and validate manufacturing processes.
  • Perform failure analysis using materials characterization techniques to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to improve product performance and reliability.
  • Provide technical guidance to suppliers on process development, validation, and continuous improvement.
  • Support troubleshooting, repair, debugging, and technical investigations throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Present technical findings, recommendations, and project updates to cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Support manufacturing process development involving machining, welding, molding, coatings, additive manufacturing, and related fabrication methods.
  • Work within laboratory, manufacturing, cleanroom, and customer production environments as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related technical discipline with 12+ years of experience;
    or Master's degree with 8+ years;
    or PhD with 5+ years.
  • Strong experience in materials engineering, product development, manufacturing processes, or product qualification.
  • Experience performing failure analysis using microscopy, spectroscopy, thermal analysis, mechanical testing, or related characterization techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and experimental design skills.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and cross‑functional collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading cross‑functional teams supporting product engineering, manufacturing, supplier engineering, quality, and field support.
  • Knowledge of structured problem‑solving methodologies such as 8D, 5 Whys, or Ishikawa.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes including welding, machining, injection molding, overmolding, polymer coatings, thermoforming, or additive manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis tools such as JMP or Minitab, including Gage R&R and Process Capability (Cp/Cpk, Pp/Ppk).
