Wastewater Process Engineer

- Lead wastewater process engineering in conventional wastewater treatment, including physical/chemical primary treatment, conventional activated sludge, BNR, fixed‑film processes, M , sidestream, tertiary filtration, and disinfection.
- Provide technical guidance to the process team, supervise engineering staff, and collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams on complex treatment solutions.
- Prepare complex engineering deliverables: process models, mass balances, design criteria/basis of design memoranda, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, trade‑off studies, and master‑planning studies.
- Support multiple projects simultaneously with complex technical challenges.
- Serve as a technical specialist with expertise in conventional and emerging wastewater treatment systems.
- Perform complex research, including bench, pilot, and full‑scale testing; incorporate data into process models.
- Develop recommendations for treatment processes, equipment, and materials selection.
- Oversee collection, assimilation, analysis, and management of data for process modeling and design work.
- Prepare process models and conduct complex engineering calculations.
- Identify key client interests and drivers for projects and new business prospects; may identify key clients in some instances.
- Communicate client interests and drivers to the project team; develop creative solutions and approaches to meet client goals.
- Support business‑development or pursuit activities, including pre‑positioning meetings, proposal development, client interviews, and identification of winning sales messages.
- Attend and present on state‑of‑the‑art wastewater treatment projects and thought‑leadership ideas at conferences.
- Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge management.
- Assist with performance‑management processes, mentoring, recognition, and performance‑improvement actions for junior engineers.
- Participate in coaching opportunities, career‑development planning, learning/training, and development of junior staff.
- Provide guidance on department design guides, standards, systems, and applicable engineering codes related to water quality and treatment.
- Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating engineering standards; provide technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines.
- Apply Black & Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks.
- Ensure compliance with Black & Veatch quality program.
- Provide guidance to others.
- Support continuous improvement and change‑management efforts.
- Coordinate with internal/external team members on moderately complex projects.
- Implement resource‑management strategy.
- Manage engineering resources for small groups.
- Ensure policies, procedures, and processes are effectively implemented and communicated for the workgroup.
- Ensure adherence to corporate and division programs.
- Approve expense reports where applicable.
- Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctoral) in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering.
- 10 years of wastewater treatment experience, including at least 5 years in water quality and treatment (analysis, evaluations, design, regulatory compliance).
- Advanced knowledge of process design for municipal wastewater and applicable design guides and standards.
- Experience with modern process simulators such as Bio Win, GPS‑X, Sumo, and/or Simba.
- Leadership skills and deep understanding of consulting, project execution, client services, and business development.
- Effective written and oral communication; drive for results; prioritization, planning, delegation, directing others, conflict management, listening, handling ambiguity, and team building.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program.
- Minimum of 11 years related work experience.
- Must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background checks, drug screening, and motor‑vehicle records search.
