Special Inspector
Job Description
Perform special inspections in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes. This role involves reading and interpreting construction documents, RFIs, and structural details, while conducting required field testing and inspections within the certification scope. The position requires preparing accurate and timely daily reports, effective communication with project managers, contractors, and internal staff, and maintaining and pursuing relevant certifications. Upholding strong safety practices in all field environments and participating in continuing education and professional development are also key aspects of this role.
Responsibilities
+ Conduct special inspections based on approved plans and specifications.
+ Read and interpret construction documents, RFIs, and structural details.
+ Perform field testing and inspections within certification scope.
+ Prepare and submit accurate and timely daily reports.
+ Communicate effectively with project managers, contractors, and internal staff.
+ Maintain current certifications and pursue additional ones as needed.
+ Adhere to strong safety practices in all field environments.
+ Participate in continuing education and professional development.
Essential Skills
+ ICC certification with at least 2 years of experience in construction or concrete inspection.
+ Experience in concrete testing, materials testing, and reinforced concrete.
+ Effective communication and report-writing skills.
+ Strong safety awareness and practices.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ CWI certification is a plus.
+
Experience with asphalt, non-destructive testing (NDT), welding, and nuclear density.
+ Open to junior candidates with ACI-Concrete Inspection certification.
+ Valid driver's license.
+ OBOA or WABO certification or ability to obtain it within a few months.
+ Nuclear Density Gauge training and certification is a plus.
+ Preferred certifications: ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician, ICC Reinforced Concrete, ICC Structural Steel & Bolting, ICC Proprietary Anchors, Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
Work Environment
The role is primarily in-field, with 90% of the time spent at various job sites around Portland. Access to a company vehicle is provided for travel between sites. The job offers opportunities to work on diverse projects, including commercial, mixed-use, multi-family, school, and highway scopes. Projects may include assignments at significant locations, such as the Kaiser Permanente medical center in North Portland.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
