Job Description
We are seeking a Senior PCB Layout Engineer to support the development of complex power supply and instrumentation boards for automated test systems. This position will work closely with hardware, signal integrity, power integrity, DFT, DFA, and manufacturing engineers throughout the PCB development lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Complete PCB layouts for complex power supply and instrumentation boards with designs exceeding 40 layers.
- Partner with hardware engineers to translate schematics and design requirements into manufacturable PCB layouts.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, system specifications, and design documentation.
- Update existing schematics using OrCAD Capture as needed.
- Develop and maintain component symbols and PCB footprints.
- Configure Cadence Constraint Manager rules for electrical, physical, and DFM requirements.
- Perform controlled impedance routing, differential pair routing, length matching, and timing-constrained routing.
- Develop controlled-impedance stack-ups while accounting for signal and power integrity requirements.
- Conduct routing assessments, feasibility studies, and design reviews.
- Generate and verify fabrication and assembly files, including Gerber and ODB++ outputs.
- Create manufacturing, assembly, and test documentation.
- Collaborate with SI and PI engineers to meet performance requirements.
- Work with DFT, DFA, and DFM teams to resolve test access, assembly, and fabrication concerns.
- Perform final quality inspections to ensure design data is complete and accurate.
- Manage PCB design documentation, part numbers, BOMs, and ECNs within Teamcenter.
- Establish layout standards and promote PCB design best practices.
- Take ownership of layout quality, schedules, and project deliverables.
- Support offshore design teams by defining and preparing CAD packages.
- Participate in product development and project kickoff meetings.
- Travel occasionally for training, meetings, or product validation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of PCB layout experience, preferably within automated test equipment or similarly complex electronic systems.
- Advanced proficiency with Cadence Allegro PCB Editor 23.1; experience with Allegro 17.2 is also beneficial.
- Experience using OrCAD Capture to review and update schematics.
- Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics.
- Experience designing high-layer-count PCBs, including boards with 40 or more layers.
- Strong understanding of high-speed PCB design principles, including controlled impedance, differential pairs, length matching, timing constraints, and signal integrity.
- Experience using Gerber and ODB++ verification tools such as View Mate or Valor.
- Knowledge of PCB fabrication, assembly, DFM, DFA, and DFT requirements.
- Ability to manage complex PCB designs with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication, organization, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
